11 Canon Characters

From Big Sal the Capone-blooded mob boss to Abbi the cryo-thawed pin-up, Slim the two-century-old ghoul bluesman, and Dogmeat himself — each canon character ships with a fully written personality, history, and voice. They think, react, and remember.

🗺

100+ Wasteland Locations

Fortified Wrigleyville, the vertical maze of the Loop, the Sears Tower Brotherhood Spire, the nightmare Stockyards, half-sunk Navy Pier — every district and the shops, dens, and strongholds inside them are hand-written, each with its own atmosphere and dangers.

👪

Hundreds of NPCs

Beyond the headline cast, the wasteland is littered with hundreds of named residents — bartenders, bosses, scribes, ghouls, gamblers, and gangsters tucked into every settlement. It makes the Windy Wasteland a prime playground for the emergent and custom-character systems: there is always someone new to meet, claim, and build a story around.

📖

Original, Lore-Friendly Story

Chicago in 2277, where the mobs of old rose from the rubble to fight over power and property and the families run the city. An original premise built to honor how Fallout’s retro-future apocalypse really works — the engine drives original events and your choices, never a game’s plot.

🖼

Built-In Character Portraits

Every canon character comes with their own portrait, shown as you meet them and in their bio. Prefer your own vision? Drop in your own art and the engine uses yours instead — built-in by default, overridable any time.

🧠

Deep Character Personalities

Each character carries their own temperament, likes, dislikes, and relationships, so they behave like themselves. Win them over or cross them and they notice — conduct and gifts nudge how they feel about you, turn after turn.

Build, Bond & Share
🛠️

Materia Story Studio

Open the Story Studio right inside the engine and shape the whole world by hand — your character, the premise, every place, and the full cast, canon and invented alike. Set how each one feels about you before a word is written, then save it to a single file and hand it to another player to live your version of the world.

Authored Moments

Hundreds of hand-written scenes that come looking for you when the world is ready — a friend pulls you aside, a guarded heart finally cracks open, an enemy forces a reckoning. Tied to the right person, the right place, and the right moment, and drawn from so deep a well you could play for a year and never meet the same one twice.

⚖️

Bonds That Run Both Ways

Earn someone’s devotion and every threshold is marked with a moment that’s unmistakably theirs. Push them the other way and it cuts just as deep — warmth curdles to cold, cold to open hostility, and in real danger a betrayed ally can turn on you.

A Living Wasteland
📻

Rockabilly Redd’s Radioactive Radio

The wasteland’s own fully-voiced radio station, spinning era-perfect tunes and atmosphere right inside the engine while you play. Skip any track you’re not feeling with a single tap — or push the dial all the way and load your own music entirely, so the soundtrack to your wasteland is whatever you want it to be.

🔊

Built-In Sounds

Atmospheric sound is built into the experience, layering the wind, the rads, and the ruin underneath the story. The wasteland isn’t just described — you hear it, and you can toggle it to taste.

☢︎

Difficulty Tiers

Set your own pressure, from a softer story-first run up through the brutal end of the dial. The wasteland tightens its grip exactly as much as you want it to.

🛡

Marked Safe Zones

Settlements and havens across the map are flagged as safe — places to trade, heal, and breathe. Inside a marked safe zone the engine eases the threat, giving the story room between the radstorms.

🧭

Fast Travel

Once you’ve discovered a location, move there directly instead of crossing the whole wind-blasted city again. Skip the trek and keep the story moving where you want it.

Shape The Wasteland

Build a Whole World — Materia Story Studio

Open Materia Story Studio right from the title screen and build your own corner of the wasteland in one place — your survivor, a whole cast, new places, and lore — then export one file and load it into the engine. It all drops straight in. Everything you add sits on top of the wasteland that’s already here; it never overwrites it. No technical know-how needed.

Create Your Own Characters

Add your own survivors, gangsters, and ghouls to the wasteland at any time — name them, describe them, give them a bio, likes, and dislikes. The engine folds them straight into the living world and tracks them like anyone else.

🏗

Create Your Own Locations

Build new places onto the map — a settlement, a still, a stronghold of your own design — with their own descriptions and even their own residents. The wasteland grows however you want it to.

Emergent Characters

With hundreds of NPCs already in play, the story constantly turns up someone new — and the engine notices, tracking them automatically. Like who walked in? Canonize them into the permanent cast with one click. Don’t? Dismiss them just as easily.

Relationship Tracking

The engine tracks how every character feels about you — canon cast, your own creations, and emergent characters alike. Bonds rise and fall with your conduct, your gifts, and your choices, and the world remembers where each one stands.

Memory & Authorship
💾

Pocket Recall

The engine remembers. Characters, places, choices, and everything that’s happened stay consistent across a long campaign, so the wasteland holds together instead of forgetting who you are and what you’ve done.

Edit, Delete, Regenerate

You’re the author. Don’t like how a moment played out? Edit it, delete it, or regenerate it until it’s right. The story bends to you — nothing is locked in against your will.

📄

One-Click Story Export

Export your entire session as a cleanly formatted text file with a single click. Write your wasteland saga as you live it — then save the whole thing to keep, share, or carry into the next chapter.

Your Provider, Your Rules

Completely free to play and built to run on your own AI provider — bring your key, set your terms, and the wasteland is yours. Everything above is built in and waiting the moment you step outside.

A whole city already alive — and entirely yours to shape.
